Box your way fit
Learn to throw a proper jab, cross, hook and uppercut, then string them together in fast rounds on the pads and bags. Real boxing skills, with no ring, no sparring and no black eyes.

Boxing fitness is a 45-minute, non-contact class where you learn a real jab, cross, hook and uppercut and put them together in fast rounds on pads and bags, with kicking rounds mixed in. No ring, no sparring. Ages 16+, all levels, 8 classes a week in Thornbury, and your first 4 classes are free.
Much more than an arm workout
A good punch starts at your feet. As you learn to turn your hips and drive off the floor, every combination becomes a leg and core exercise as well as a shoulder and arm one.
We also mix in kicking rounds, so your legs and glutes, the biggest muscles you've got, get their turn too. That's why you finish a 45-minute class tired all over, not just in the arms.
Boxing fitness fits around a busy week: weeknights at 6:30pm, Tuesday and Thursday at 11:15am, or Saturday mornings. Just bring a towel and a water bottle, and we'll take care of the rest.
Skills that stick
Technique first
You'll learn stance, guard and footwork before speed, so every punch is safe and strong.
Sharper reflexes
Fast combinations train timing, coordination and quick thinking along with fitness.
Zero contact
You only ever hit mitts, pads and bags. Nobody hits you back.
How a boxing fitness class runs
Footwork warm-up. Light, bouncy movement to get your heart rate up.
Punch rounds. Combinations on focus mitts and heavy bags.
Kick rounds. Front kicks, round kicks and knees to bring in the legs.
Burn-out. A short, hard conditioning interval, then stretch.
The Kickboxing exercise classes are awesome. Great instructors. Pounding away on the high-quality punch/kick bags pushes my cardio fitness, tones my aging body, allows me to deal with the stresses of the day.

Boxing Fitness: your questions answered
Where can I do boxing classes near me?
At our full-time dojo at 272 Dundas St, Thornbury, a short trip from Coburg, Fairfield, Reservoir and the inner north.
Is this a boxing gym?
We're a full-time martial arts school. Boxing fitness is part of our Fitness Kickboxing programme, so classes mix boxing rounds with kicking rounds. Want kicks the whole way? Try fitness kickboxing.
Is boxing fitness a good workout?
Yes. A good punch starts at your feet and turns through your hips and core, so you work your legs and midsection as well as your shoulders and arms.
Do I need boxing experience?
No. Your instructor shows you how to stand, guard and punch from your very first class.
Will I have to spar?
Never. You only hit mitts, pads and bags. Nobody hits you back.
Do I need my own boxing gloves?
Not to start. Your free trial includes a new pair of gloves to keep, and all other equipment is supplied.
Is boxing fitness good for stress relief?
Many people find hitting a bag one of the best ways to clear their head after a long day, and the 45-minute class keeps you too busy to think about anything else.
Will boxing fitness work my arms?
Yes, along with your shoulders, back and core. A good punch starts from your feet and turns through your hips, so your legs work too.
Is boxing fitness OK for women?
Absolutely. Our classes are mixed and very popular with women. See women's fitness kickboxing.
How often should I do boxing fitness?
Once or twice a week is a great start. Unlimited membership lets you come to all 8 weekly classes.
How long is each class?
45 minutes, including a warm-up and a stretch.
