Fit kickboxing: the class that flies by
Forty-five minutes of kicks, punches, knees and elbows on heavy bags and striking towers, with the music up and an instructor calling the combinations. You'll sweat, you'll learn something, and you'll want to come back.

Fitness kickboxing at our Thornbury dojo is a 45-minute, non-contact workout: kicks, punches, knees and elbows on heavy bags and striking towers, set to music and coached by martial arts instructors. It suits women and men aged 16+ of any fitness level, runs 8 times a week, and your first 4 classes are free.
Why kickboxing works so well for fitness
Every strike is a full-body movement. Your legs push off the floor, your hips turn, your core braces and your fist or shin finishes the job. Repeat that a few hundred times in a session and your heart, lungs and muscles all get a proper workout.
Because you're learning real technique, your brain stays busy too. Nothing like counting minutes on a treadmill: the combinations keep changing, so the time disappears.
Train for your goal
Pick what matters
Losing weight, toning up, getting stronger, moving better or simply blowing off steam. Tell us your goal and we'll help you work towards it.
The gear is on us
Bags, towers, focus mitts and kick shields are all supplied. Your first pair of gloves comes free with your trial.
Effort beats talent
Nobody expects you to be fit or coordinated on day one. Show up, put in the effort, and the progress follows.
Your first class, step by step
Arrive early. Come 15 minutes before your first class so we can say hello and get you set up with gloves.
Warm up. Mobility and light cardio to get you moving.
Strike. Rounds of kicks, punches, knees and elbows on the bags and towers.
Finish strong. A short conditioning burst, then a stretch to cool down.
Been doing Fitness Kickboxing here for about 3 years. Cannot recommend GMA enough! The classes are always varied and fun, and the instructors are amazing and always put their own spin on classes, so you are learning something new with every class.

Fitness Kickboxing: your questions answered
What is fitness kickboxing?
A non-contact workout where you kick, punch, knee and elbow heavy bags, towers and pads to music, guided by a martial arts instructor. You learn real technique while you get fit.
Is fitness kickboxing good for weight loss?
It's one of the best ways to burn energy and enjoy it. Every strike uses your legs, hips, core and arms, and the 45-minute class keeps your heart rate up. Train regularly, pair it with sensible eating, and it can make a real difference.
Is there fitness kickboxing near me in Melbourne?
Our dojo is at 272 Dundas St, Thornbury, close to Northcote, Preston, Brunswick East and across the inner north.
I've never trained before. Is that OK?
Yes. Most members started as complete beginners. You go at your own pace on your own bag. Read kickboxing for beginners.
Will I have to spar or get hit?
Never. You only strike bags, towers and pads.
How often should I come?
Once a week ($24.50) is a great start. Unlimited ($39.50 a week) lets you come to all 8 weekly classes. See timetable and prices.
Is fitness kickboxing the same as kickboxing for fighters?
No. It uses the same kicks and punches, but there's no sparring and no contact. The goal is fitness and good technique, not competition.
Can I do fitness kickboxing if I'm unfit or overweight?
Yes. You work at your own pace on your own bag, and instructors show you easier options whenever you need them.
What will I learn?
Your stance and guard, the jab, cross and hook, front, push and turning kicks, and knee and elbow strikes. See the techniques.
How soon will I notice a difference?
That depends on how often you train and what you eat, but most people feel fitter and more confident within their first few weeks of regular classes.
What should I wear?
Comfortable gym clothes. Most people train barefoot. Bring a water bottle and a towel.
