Never done kickboxing?

Perfect.
Everyone has a first class.

Maybe you're not as fit as you used to be, or it's been a while since you exercised. We get it. Starting something new can be a bit intimidating, and we're here to help.

Why beginners feel at home

Built for your first day

01

You control the pace

Nobody will push you past what you're ready for. The class works at 50% or 100%.

02

Your own bag or tower

Very few partner drills, so nobody's waiting on you while you learn the routines.

03

You'll be taught properly

Fitness comes first, but you'll still learn to kick and punch with good form, and to put real power behind your strikes in case you ever need to protect yourself.

Your first few months

Play it smart from the start

30 min

At about 70%. For your first few weeks, learn the kicks, punches and routines without blowing up.

15 min

Push harder. Finish every class with a real sweat.

45 min

Over the months, bring that effort earlier until you can go strong from start to finish.

What to bring

Just turn up

  • Comfortable gym clothes
  • A water bottle and a towel
  • That's it. Your trial gloves are free and yours to keep.
  • Change rooms are available before and after class
You're in control

Effort = results

The effort you put in decides the results you get. That doesn't mean charging in like a bull at a gate. Unless you're already very fit, the right way to train is to put in a great effort and listen to what your body is telling you.

A good exercise plan is all about training smart, with a medium- to long-term plan, right from the beginning.

Questions

Your first kickboxing class: questions answered

What should I wear to my first kickboxing class?

Comfortable gym clothes: a t-shirt or singlet and shorts or leggings. Most people train barefoot on the mats. Bring a water bottle and a small towel; we supply the gloves and bags.

Do I need to be fit before I start?

No. You set your own pace on your own bag, and instructors show you easier options whenever you need them. See class times to pick a start date.

What happens in my first class?

Come 15 minutes early. We'll fit your free gloves, show you your stance and guard, then you join the warm-up and work through the rounds at your own level. See the techniques you'll learn.

How often should a beginner train?

Once or twice a week is a great start. Once a week is $24.50 a week, or come as often as you like for $39.50 a week.

Will I be the only beginner?

Unlikely. New people start all the time, and everyone works at their own level.

Do I need to know any kickboxing?

No. Your instructor shows you everything from your stance and guard upwards.

Is kickboxing hard for beginners?

It's a good workout, but you control the intensity, so it's as hard as you want it to be.

What if I can't keep up?

You never have to. You work on your own bag, so you can slow down or take a breather whenever you need.
