Strong, fit and confident
Fitness kickboxing is one of our most popular classes with women, from first-timers to members who've trained with us for years. Classes are mixed, welcoming and completely non-contact.

Fitness kickboxing is one of our most popular classes with women of all ages. Classes are mixed, welcoming and completely non-contact: 45 minutes of kicks and punches on your own bag at your own pace, with daytime sessions on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. Ages 16+ in Thornbury, and your first 4 classes are free.
Built around how you want to feel
Learning to throw a strong punch or a sharp kick gives you something a treadmill can't: you walk out feeling capable. The strength and fitness come along with it.
There's no judgement and no pressure. You work at your own pace, on your own bag, and your instructor helps you improve week by week.
Plenty of women start with a friend, sister or daughter (16+) and train together. If you'd like a bit of extra help in your first few classes, just ask your instructor. That's what they're there for.
Why women stay
Confidence that carries over
Getting stronger and learning real technique changes how you feel well beyond the dojo.
A welcoming room
Everyone started as a beginner, and the group is friendly from your first class.
Times that fit your week
Weeknight classes, plus Tuesday and Thursday 11:15am and Saturday mornings.
Your first class
Come a little early. 15 minutes before your first class, so we can get you settled and fit your gloves.
Warm up. Easy movement to get going.
Kick and punch. Rounds on the bags at your own pace.
Stretch. Finish feeling good, not wrecked.
I do the adults class too, and we also both do the Kickboxing. As an older woman this is exactly the kind of exercise I need to keep my bones and my muscles strong.

Women's Fitness Kickboxing: your questions answered
Is there women's kickboxing near me?
Our Thornbury dojo is popular with women from Fitzroy North, Carlton North, Fitzroy and across the inner north.
Are the classes women-only?
No, classes are mixed, but they're very popular with women and the atmosphere is friendly and relaxed.
Is kickboxing good for women over 40?
Yes. You set the pace, there's no contact, and the mix of cardio and strength work helps keep bones and muscles strong. Members of all ages train with us.
Do you have daytime classes?
Yes: Tuesday and Thursday at 11:15am, and Saturday at 10:30am and 11:15am.
Is this self-defence?
It's a fitness class, though you'll learn to strike with real power. For self-defence skills, see our Japanese Jujutsu classes on the Martial Arts page.
I'm nervous about starting. What should I do?
Book a free trial and come 15 minutes early so we can settle you in. You can also start with a friend in a small-group lesson.
Can I bring my daughter or a friend?
Yes, if they're 16 or over. Each new member gets their own 4 free classes and free gloves.
Will kickboxing make me bulky?
No. It's a cardio and conditioning workout that builds lean strength and tone, not bulk.
Do I need to be fit to start?
No. You set the pace, and instructors show you easier options whenever you need them.
What should I wear?
Comfortable gym clothes. Most people train barefoot. Bring a water bottle.
How much does it cost?
Your first 4 classes are free. Then it's $24.50 a week for one class or $39.50 a week unlimited, with concessions available.
